In August we started the school year with 280 students, 165 of them boarding students. For the beginning of January we expect some additional enrollments. Despite this increase of student numbers the education and care of each individual student be it in the class room or in the boarding house is most important to us.
The board of governors has passed the budget for the year 2012 on its meeting on November 24th 2011. We will continue the renovation and improvement of the infrastructure of the school. The focus will be put on Grosses Haus. In January we hope to put into operation a new synthetic ice rink. Since this kind of ice can be used under any condition it will be a welcome change to the extracurricular activities as well as an addition to the Physical Education classes.
We would like to sincerely thank the members of the Montana Club who helped us with fundraising for the trip. The money you have put into it was entirely worth it. Reflections on the Tanzania Trip.pdf

Our venue, The Tides, was a lovely older hote. facing the beach. The evening began with a cash bar in the lobby which allowed participants to become acquainted with each other. The group then moved to the dining room where we had a sit down meal. Following some speeches we proceeded to enjoy the excellent fare provided by the hotel.
There were forty alumni and partners present. Six of the alumni from South America managed to participate and there were three from Switzerland, one from Germany and the others from various states in The United States, the furthest coming from near Seattle. Most of those who attending were from the 1970’s to 2005 though Dennis Mhyre attended Montana in the 50’s and James Bramm was there in the 60’s. It was interesting to hear about the School in these times. Each Alum was required to stand up, introduce himself / herself, state the years he / she was at Montana and tell the group one memory he / she had of their time at the School. These memories were all positive and some were most amusing. It was really pleasant to have such a positive group of people.
After all the food had been devoured the group returned to the lobby / bar area and continued to reminisce about the ways they had been influenced by the School. The group began to split up and return home or to their hotels about 11:30 PM, an excellent time having been had by all.
I would like to thank Peter Oehrlein, who selected the venue and who was a great help in getting answers for me when I could not find them, Herman Montoya who also spent time seeking out a venue but it was not able to work within our budget. Special thanks also go to Aline William –
Bauer, from the Tides, who was such a great help, remained cheerful and met our many wishes and provided such a pleasant and helpful staff for the meeting. Thanks must also go to all those who turned out in such foul weather to be present.
Kind regards,
John
